Featured Entrepreneur: Michelle Strashoon, Publisher / Editor-in-Chief, HipCompass Escapes travel magazine

How did you become an entrepreneur?
My parents have always been self-employed, so it never was an option to be a worker-bee. At age 5 I would sneak out of my grandma's home to sell her neighbors fruit I found in the kitchen, and from that moment I never looked back.

What is the nature of your business? What kind of product/service to you provide?
Our magazine is the first fully digital national travel magazine to launch in the US. What makes us different is the fact that we cover all different types of travel...from luxury to budget....from relaxation to adventure travel.

Why do you love what you do?
From a young age I dreamed of traveling the world...I don't consider what I do as work, I am honestly living a dream!

How long have you been in business for yourself?

My current project, the magazine, launched at the beginning of '09

How do you attract clients?

Are you familiar with Travel Tips and Tours (aka www.uratrip.com)? Not sure if you'd consider them a competitor but there is perhaps some synergy/overlap there (or advertising opp).
