How did you become an entrepreneur?
I had always envisioned myself as a business owner, but it needed to be something that appealed to my many areas of interest. While working in home furnishings retail, I found that I love working with people and helping them outfit their homes. Starting this business has allowed me to combine my life-long love, practice and respect for organizing with my passion for interior design and I get to assist people in making their homes the beautiful and functional spaces they love.

What is the nature of your business? What kind of product/service to you provide?
As a professional organizer, I work with clients in their home. During our sessions we address clutter by sorting and purging. We then set up systems to maintain organization, introducing storage solutions, where needed. KMD Organizing also offers staging and interior redesign. Both of these services go hand in hand with organizing and for both, we focus on using furniture and accessories you already have.
Selling your home and preparing for a move are both stressful undertakings. Staging makes your home more appealing to potential buyers by de-cluttering, de-personalizing and editing or rearranging the furniture and accessories you already have, suggesting budget-friendly items, when necessary. Preparing your home in this way also gives you a headstart on packing and ensures that you only move those items you cherish and enhance your life.
Interior Redesign is a way of updating your living spaces by rearranging furniture and accessories you already have, introducing new pieces, when necessary. Whether you want a new look for a room or just sprucing up the bookshelves, it's a great way to turn a room you are bored with into a place you love to be.

Why do you love what you do?
Organizing is fun for me; I love the process as well as seeing and achieving the orderly, neat results. But mostly I love helping people get passed clutter and intimidation of the project when they are feeling frustrated and getting them to a place of clarity and freedom. We all know that looming projects are stressful and can be difficult to tackle whether you are feeling overwhelmed, that you don't have the skills or that you don't have time or inclination to address it on your own. Working with a professional organizer not only gets you organized, but it helps free your mind and take away stress while energizing you, giving you the freedom to move forward and focus on what matters most to you in your life.

How long have you been in business for yourself?
Since Spring of 2008

How do you attract clients?
I am a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers and one of the features of their website, www.napo.net, is helping people find an organizer in their area. I am listed on a few other sites as well. I am part of a networking group, I have my website, I do an e-newsletter and I am working on a brochure as well as a print ad. I use social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. But for my type of business, referrals are key for attracting clients.
